Native configuration management in PRTG
When a network device is misconfigured — or a change goes wrong — the first questions are always the same: what changed, and when? Without a reliable record, answering those questions means guesswork, and recovering a known-good configuration can mean hours of downtime. Many of you have asked for a way to back up and track your device configurations without bolting on yet another separate tool.
With our recent acquisition of UVexplorer, we now have proven technology for capturing and managing network device configurations. Today UVexplorer runs as a standalone application with a basic integration into the classic PRTG UI. We're working to bring this capability natively into PRTG, accessible through the new PRTG UI.
What we're planning:
- Automatic, scheduled backups of configurations from your network devices
- Version history for every device, so you can see how a configuration evolved over time
- Change tracking that highlights exactly what changed between two versions
- The ability to restore or reapply a previous configuration when something breaks
- A native experience in the new PRTG UI — not a separate tool to install and manage
Why it matters:
Configuration backup and change tracking shorten recovery time when something goes wrong, make audits and compliance far less painful, and give you an early warning when a device drifts from its intended state — all alongside the monitoring you're already doing in PRTG.

As a Network Administrator/IT Infrastructure Manager, I want a Network Configuration Manager module integrated within PRTG that can automatically backup, track, and manage network device configurations, so that I can ensure configuration compliance, quickly identify unauthorized changes, maintain configuration history for rollback purposes, and reduce manual configuration management overhead while keeping all network management activities within a single platform.
