Enhancements for One-Time Maintenance Windows: Annotations, Metadata Visibility & Manual Termination
As a Systems Engineer I want the following enhancements for one-time maintenance windows in PRTG:
Add a notes/comment field - an optional "Remarks" field where I can document the reason or context for the maintenance window
Status display with metadata - show the maintenance window status along with:
- The note/remark entered
- The duration of the maintenance window
- Which user created itAbility to manually end a maintenance window - allow me to stop/cancel an active one-time maintenance window before its scheduled end time
so that I can better document, communicate, and control planned maintenance activities - improving team transparency and avoiding unnecessary monitoring gaps.

This is an outstanding proposal that would add significant operational value to PRTG. As someone managing a NOC team, the lack of context in one-time maintenance windows often leads to 'blind' troubleshooting or unnecessary escalations.
The Remarks field and Metadata visibility (especially knowing which user scheduled the window) are essential for accountability and team transparency. Furthermore, the Manual Termination feature is a must-have; if a task is completed ahead of schedule, we should be able to resume monitoring immediately to ensure the infrastructure is back under supervision without waiting for a timer to expire.
Fully support this! It’s a vital step for better documentation and change management integration.

As a part of Service Management, I would like to track the reason a maintenance was planned without disturbing anyone.
I think it is feasible to add a comment/notes line when scheduling a maintenance window. A simple line could be used to add a Request or Change ticket. Please see image for example.

As an IT service provider with several technicians, we make extensive use of PRTG. This also includes the maintenance window using the "Pause" function.
It would be very helpful for us if this maintenance window could be enhanced with the following features:
- Add a note field (comments), which may also remain empty
- Status display showing this note, how long it is active, and which user activated it
- Ability to manually end the maintenance windowWe look forward to its introduction.
