History Tab for Non-Admins
As an IT Infrastructure Manager or Systems Engineer who has been granted full rights over a remote probe in PRTG, I want to be able to access the "History" tab for the devices and sensors under my responsibility so that I can independently audit configuration changes, troubleshoot issues, and maintain accountability within my scope — without requiring Root-level access or relying on a PRTG Admin.
Hi there,
Thank you again for submitting your idea to Paessler. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.
After careful consideration by our team, we've decided to decline this idea at this time.
PRTG's access model is built around user access rights levels (Administrator, Read/Write, and Read-Only), not role-based access control. The History tab — which logs all configuration changes with timestamps and usernames — is intentionally restricted to administrative users because it exposes system-wide configuration audit data that goes beyond the scope of individual object access.
Introducing selective visibility of the History tab based on object-level permissions would require a fundamental change to how PRTG handles audit logging and access control. This is not something we are currently planning, as it would add significant complexity to a model that we want to keep straightforward and easy to manage.
While this particular idea won't be moving forward, please don't be discouraged! Your input is incredibly valuable, and we encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts and ideas with us.
Thanks for your understanding and for helping us shape the future of Paessler.
Best regards,
The Paessler Product Team
